Portfolio > "Chicago Odyssey" Portraits of Chicago Artists: A Collaboration with Carole Harmel

In his portrait, Conger navigates a course between several opposites: photography and paint, warm and cool colors, city and the sea journey home, echoing the original journey in Homer, from a city at war to peace. (Conger's city though is probably Chicago, not Troy). Finally, it is blackness which unites the two parts of the portrait: the black backdrop of the portrait unites with the black negative space of the painting, navigating a course between photograph and paint.
